Recap 05x07 door A.V. Club

Een mooie recap over The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham.
Prior to this past two weeks’ one-two punch of “316” and “The Life And Death Of Jeremy Bentham,” Lost has aired Jack episodes and Locke episodes back-to-back three times. It happened twice in Season One: With “Walkabout” (in which Locke hunts boar and we learn about his handicap) and “White Rabbit” (in which Jack picks up his father’s body in Australia, and on the island takes responsibility for leading the castaways), then with “Deus Ex Machina” (in which Locke meets his biological mother and father, and makes a series of decisions that lead to Boone’s death) and “Do No Harm” (in which Jack gets married to a woman whose life he saved, and on the island fails to save Boone’s life). And last season we had the one-two of “Something Nice Back Home” (about Jack’s appendicitis and his deteriorating life off the island) and “Cabin Fever” (about Locke’s boyhood and his arrival at Jacob’s cabin).

Mysterieuze personages uit Lost

Los Angeles Times heeft een artikel gemaakt over de mysterieuze personages uit Lost.
After 4 1/2 seasons, we've gotten pretty familiar with our most favorite group of island castaways since Gilligan and company. So familiar, in fact, that the producers have jettisoned the once de rigeur flashbacks into our main characters' pasts. We know all about Kate's daddy issues, Jack's daddy issues, Locke's daddy issues, heck we even know about Ben Linus' daddy issues. But even though we've had many questions answered, there are still a lot of slippery characters haunting the periphery of our favorite show on TV. Some of them seem helpful but probably aren't (Matthew Abaddon, played by Lance Reddick at left), and others exude an air of menace even while working on the side of the angels (Ms. Hawking). Here are our thoughts and speculations on the most mysterious characters in a series filled with mysteries.

Secrets of Lost #4

Een leuke video van Jimmy Kimmel Live met Michael Emerson en Daniel Dae Kim.

Lostwatch: I Gotta Have Faith

Een recap van The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham.
I'm not going to write too much tonight about the mythology implications of last night's episode of Lost. Partly because we knew the general shape of what was going to happen--minus the little bit about Locke coming back to life, which answers our question from the last LDG--and partly because we can speculate on that in the comments. But mostly because I want to talk about how awesome Terry O'Quinn is.

Baby's in Lost

Een artikel over de Lost Babies.
Lost is about time travel, faith versus reason, life choices, or a battle to determine the fate of the world, but really, it's about babies: How are they born? Who are their parents? What do their names mean? More often than not, they’re born into incomplete families; other times, there is an abusive or neglectful parent who haunts them. Sometimes, their parents die. This season we’ve met Desmond and Penny’s kid, Charlie, and Dr. Pierre Chang’s son, neither of whom is cloaked in death. Does this represent a meaningful break from the past, or are there heaps of tragedy lying ahead? Who cares, we just love the precious little faces of newborns!

Lost verwijzingen in PC game

Door Dutch Lost geplaatst, staat het volgende op DarkUFO:
I was playing the PC game "Nancy Drew: Danger By Design" the other day when I noticed this in the game. The object of the game is to solve a mystery, and I needed to contact a person (Hugo Butterly) using my in-game phone. I was surprised to see two extra phone numbers listed underneath his...both relevant to LOST.

The first number is obviously the infamous 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42, while the owner's name is Anne-Lucie Croix, an obvious allusion to Ana Lucia Cortez. The second number repeats "108 00" like the timer in the Swan Station. The owner is Pace Carrol, similar to Charlie Pace.

Funnier still, when I called these numbers using my in-game phone, there was more. Anne-Lucie's number revealed a Morse code message that decodes to something along the lines of "Some of us are trying to sleep here." Can't you see Ana saying that? :) But the best part was calling Pace's number: you hear guitar music on the other end of the line.

Both shows were roughly even when they began on January 25, with Lost registering 974k (4.6%) and Being Human picking up 898k (3.9%).

Last night Lost - now in its penultimate season - averaged 936k (4%) in the 9pm hour. Being Human, meanwhile, has lost viewers every week to date and last night dropped to just 578k (2.5%). The figure is still up around a third on the channel average for the slot, however.

Lost gaat gewoon door

Een artikel over de kijkcijfers van Lost en de die hard fans die de serie steunen.

The other day I got an e-mail asking why I hadn’t written about the “news” that American Idol would be flip-flopping with Lie to Me and that spelled bad news for LOST because LOST would be going head-to-head with American Idol. Apparently the story created a frenzy on the Internet, but that was lost on me to a degree because there was a mini-frenzy in our own comments section weeks ago about it, though honestly, until Hibberd’s post, I wasn’t aware exactly when it would happen other than knowing it was still weeks in the future.

Emilie de Ravin in een nieuwe film

Emilie de Ravin (Claire) gaat in een nieuwe film spelen.
Marc-Andre Grondin, Ellen Barkin and Famke Janssen are starring in The Chameleon, a psychological thriller being directed by Jean Paul Salome.

The script, written by Salome and Natalie Carter, revolves around the reunion of a young man (Grondin) and his family after being positively identified in an unsolved missing-persons case. The reunion turns bittersweet when suspicions arise about whether he really is their son.

Barkin will play the mom, and Janssen is an FBI agent. Nick Stahl and Emilie de Ravin also star.

The project was inspired by a real person profiled in an August article in The New Yorker titled "The Chameleon: The Many Lives of Frederic Bourdin." Bourdin assumed at least 39 identities, three of them missing teens.

Lost neemt het op tegen Idol

Het Amerikaanse programma Idol gaat het opnemen tegen Lost.
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The Fox network is shaking up Wednesday night by swapping reality hit "American Idol" and the new police procedural "Lie to Me."

Once the singing competition moves into the finals March 11, Fox will pivot "Idol" to 9 p.m., turning its ratings Death Star against ABC's "Lost" for the rest of season.

The Tim Roth-starring "Lie to Me" will stay out of the way by shifting to 8 p.m.

Though "Idol" and "Lost" tend to have different audiences, last week Fox aired a two-hour "Idol" that stretched into the 9 p.m. hour and seemed to take a little steam out of the mystery thriller, whose ratings have fallen with each episode this season.

For "Lie," the move is a mixed blessing. The drama won't have nearly as much competition at 8 p.m. Wednesday, but it won't have "Idol" for a lead-in either.

This is the first time in two years that "Lost" has faced "Idol."

Interview met William Mapother

De Lost fansite Lostzilla.net had een interview met William Mapother. Hij speelt Ethan in Lost, ookal komt ie de laatste tijd weinig voor in de serie.

How did you like going back to Lost? When did they tell you that you'd be back?

A: I loved going back. Seeing the cast and crew is like going to a reunion -- a lot of hugs and Hello’s. They asked me last August to shoot the episode, but I was doing a stage play, so they shot my scene in October, after the play ended. They were very accommodating to Mr. Ethan.

The castmember you're more fond of? Who do you enjoy working with the most?

A: I like them all. The producers gathered a terrific group of actors, and they’re all very professional and easy to work with. I probably know Matthew Fox the best, because we’ve worked together the most, but I like everyone.

If you could play any other character on the show, which one would it be?

A: Good question. Probably Jack if I felt like being the hero, Locke if I felt like being the prophet, and Ben if I felt like being mysterious!

How did your life change after Lost? Do you get different job offers now? How does one life's change after shooting in Hawaii? What do you do there when you're not shooting?

A: I get recognized more often now, of course. I was hiking in the northern Czech Republic in the woods, and someone complimented me on ‘Lost’ (!). Fortunately, almost all ‘Lost’ fans are very polite and complimentary, so I don’t mind at all. I don’t know that my job offers are different, but I think I get more of them, because so many people in the entertainment industry watch the show. Shooting in Hawaii changes one’s life this way: You now envy those who live there. : ) The show flies me over just to shoot my scenes, so I don’t have a lot of free time, but if I do, I hike or go to the beach or rent a car to see the island’s beauty.

Do you have any theories about the show? Did you watch it before you were a part of it? Your favourite season and episode? Do you watch the show when you're not on it?

A: I have no theories. I’m definitely in the back seat, trusting that the drivers know where they’re going (!). I was offered the part on the morning the show premiered, so I accepted without having seen it. The next morning, when I flew to Hawaii to shoot, the show was already a hit. My favorite season (so far) was probably the first, because that’s when I was on it the most. : ) Yes, I never miss an episode.

What do you think about the fact that your character is appearing more often on Lost now that he's dead?

A: I think the actor who plays him is very fortunate. : ) I think the producers like him or they wouldn’t keep bringing him back, of course. And I have a lot of people ask questions about Ethan -- his history, etc. I think a lot of fan still find him very interesting.

Your character shot Locke... do you think this will have repercussions?

A: My best answer: Only if the writers want it to. With all the time travel going on, they can do almost anything they want. So if it is convenient to them for Locke’s leg to be hurting, then yes, it will have consequences.

Do they tell you stuff about Ethan's background, or you just go with the flow?

A: I asked when I first started shooting, and they couldn’t (or wouldn’t) tell me much. I think they were still figuring things out. Most of it I’ve made up for myself, just to make the character real to me. Of course, I get surprises every now and then. For instance, I was surprised to learn Ethan was a surgeon. I suppose I completely forgot I had gone to medical school!

When Ethan was killed off, did you know you were going to be back? Actually, do you know right now if you'll be back this season? How does it feel to have more screentime after your character's death?

A: I did not know I’d be back, but I suspected. But of course back then, so many characters had not yet returned to the show. But if I remember correctly, I think someone hinted to me that I’d be back. I don’t know if I’ll be back. They call me when they need me. I went to catholic schools for sixteen years, so it feels great to be resurrected again and again!

Interview met Michael Emerson

The Daily Beast interviewde Michael Emerson, oftewel Ben Linus.

Is the fifth season of Lost trending more towards action and adventure on the island?

Yeah, even more than you’ve seen so far. It is action-packed. Sometimes you read a script and you think “No way, no way can we film this in ten days—how are we going to get this done?” They are explosions and special effects, gun play and fights, and [we crash] every kind of vehicle imaginable. There is falling through time, falling through space, [even] falling underground.

Your storyline is ramping up—you had a nosebleed caused by all of the flashbacks and flash-forwards. The island is hopping through time and messing you all up.

Yeah, how cool was that? I was watching it with a girlfriend of mine, and my nose started to bleed [on screen] and she leaned over, hit me and said “No! No, you can’t die!” I said, “Don’t worry, she just said had a nosebleed.” She said, “Yeah that means she’s gonna die!” [Laughs] What can you say, Juliet’s sick...

De top van Sawyer bijnamen

TV Guide.com is een website voor alles wat met TV te maken heeft. Naar aanleiding van seizoen 5 van Lost hebben ze een top gemaakt van de bijnamen die Sawyer heeft verzonnen.

Lost is back, and with it an exciting new season of Sawyer nicknames. The former con man kicked things off right, dropping a few gems in the first two hours of the season: "Dr. Wizard" for Faraday, "Ginger" for Charlotte, "Frogurt" for Neil and even "The Ghost of Christmas Future" for himself. As we eagerly await Ol' Scruffy's next instant classic, here's a look our favorites to date.

11. "Freckles"
For: Kate
Explanation: This one gets a nod simply because of the sheer volume of its usage. Plus, this pet name is endearing, which we can't say for most of the others.
Honorable Mentions: "Sassafrass," "Shortcake"

10. "Genghis"
For: Miles Straume
Explanation: Sawyer doesn't shy away from the easy references, and ethnicity is usually his first line of attack. Case in point: this reference to Mongolian ruler Genghis Khan. Sawyer's also referred to Miles as "Bruce Lee from the Freighter" and "Donger," a play off of Sixteen Candles' Long Duk Dong.

9. "Kenny Rogers"
For: Frank Lapidus, the Freighter Folk's chopper pilot
Explanation: A simple look-alike gag, but it had us rolling.
Honorable Mention: Shaggy

8. "Jackass"
For: Jack
Explanation: Get it? His name is Jack, and Sawyer's calling him an ass. The clever devil.
Honorable Mentions: "Cool Hand", "Dr. Do-Right," "Dr. Giggles," "Amarillo Slim"

7. "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"
For: Jin and Sun Kwon
Explanation: While again ethnically based, this nickname is also indicative of Sawyer's extensive knowledge of high and low culture. He frequently references Star Wars and classic literature. In this case, we think he was just hoping for subtitles to Jin and Sun's conversation.
Honorable Mentions: "Papa-San" (Jin); "Tokyo Rose" (Sun)

6. "Rambina"
For: Ana Lucia
Explanation: Tough as nails, she was one of the few women on the island to match Sawyer's surliness. Her fearless, cavalier approach earned her the name.
Honorable Mentions: "Hot Lips," "Ana LuLu," "Cupcake"

5. "Skeletor"
For: Roger Linus's skeleton
Explanation: Okay, totally obvious. But Sawyer was drunk. On who-knows-how-old Dharma Initiative beer. Still, funny.

4. "Mr. Clean"
For: Locke
Explanation: We're big fans of this one, and wouldn't you know it, executive producer Damon Lindelof says it's his overall favorite. "It felt particularly witty, considering Sawyer had used up most of his 'bald' jokes at that point," Lindelof said. "He proved ever-resourceful."
Honorable Mentions: "Cue Ball," "Brutus," "Colonel Kurtz"

3. "Captain Bunny Killer"
For: Ben
Explanation: One of Sawyer's most literal nicknames: Only days earlier, Ben had "killed" a rabbit to scare Sawyer into submission.
Honorable Mentions: "Yoda," "Gizmo," "Bug-eyed Bastard"

2. "Stay Puft"
For: Hurley
Explanation: Hugo has been on the receiving end of Sawyer's quick wit more than any other survivor, and once revoked Sawyer's nicknaming privileges by beating him at ping pong. Unfortunately for Hurley, Sawyer falls back on physical appearances even more often than ethnicity.
Honorable Mentions: "Three Men and a Baby" (with Charlie and Aaron, counting Hurley twice), "Deep Dish," "Jabba," "Snuffy," "Jumbotron," "International House of Pancakes"

1. "Captain Falafel"
For: Sayid
Explanation: Just as Hurley is the main recipient of fat jokes, Sayid gets the most racist comments. The once-and-future assassin did torture Sawyer only a few days after they met, but still, not cool. Of course, Sayid seems to take a sticks-and-stones attitude to the whole thing.
Honorable Mentions: "Red Beret," "Al Jazeera," "Captain A-rab"

Interview met Grant Bowler

Grant Bowler speelde in seizoen 4 Captain Gault in Lost (de kapitein van The Freighter). Hij gaf een interview.

The name Grant Bowler may not immediately ring a bell with American audiences, but if he keeps doing what he's been doing the last few years, that will change fast. We first saw the Australian actor in his role as Captain Gault on 'Lost' (he was the head cheese of the freighter before being relieved of command by Keamy the mercenary), and his current role on 'Ugly Betty' as Connor Owens is definitely making a splash at the ABC hit.

Back in Oceania (he was born in New Zealand and raised in Australia),
he's famous for his role on the wildly popular 'Outrageous Fortune' and as the former host of 'The Mole', among other things. We chatted with Grant about the shake-up he's caused on 'Ugly Betty', his 'Lost' days, and what's in store for him in the future.

TV.com: Is there any chance you'll be back on 'Lost' again?

Grant Bowler: Look, I hope so. I'd love to go back on the series. I had an absolute ball on 'Lost'. Again, a very successful show, tremendous show. So I'd love to go back on. I don't know, if they call me, I'll be there about twenty seconds after they call. But the thing with 'Lost' is that you have no idea until 10 minutes after you were meant to be there, what's happening. I don't know anybody on the show who's not in the dark. So your guess is as good as mine. But if J.J. can hear me, really, I'm up, I'll go again.

TV.com: Actually, I just spoke to Damon and Carlton earlier this morning. I didn't get a chance to ask about you, I should have. I should have lobbied for you to come back.

Grant Bowler: Yeah, thanks, mate. Next time you get a chance, do, because I would love to. But yeah, no, your guess is as good as mine.

TV.com: All your scenes were on the freighter.

Grant Bowler: We were on a freighter and it was great. When we were shooting the final episodes, the last couple of nights we were out doing the stuff on the freighter, the seas got quite big. And we actually couldn't get off the freighter on my last night. We had to take the freighter--we couldn't get off the freighter onto the transport boat. So we had to take the freighter all the way back in. And I remember that as being one of the longest days I've ever had in my life, because the freighter took hours to get back in.

TV.com: Did you know how long your stay would be on 'Lost'? Or did you just pick up a script and see that Keamy was going to shoot you?

Grant Bowler: I picked up the script and saw that Keamy was going to shoot me. Yeah, that was as much of a surprise to me as it was to anybody else. In fact, I was really enjoying the episode up until then. And that was hilarious, because I was sitting in the living room with my wife, and I went, "Ugh!" And she went, "What?" And I went, "I'm dead!" She went, "Oh, that's not good." And I said, "No, it's not!"
