Josh Holloway is oud genoeg om vader te zijn

Today, I was thrilled to read that the witty and charming Josh Holloway, who plays grifter-turned-leader-of-men Sawyer on ABC's Wednesday-night drama "Lost," and wife Yessica Kumala became first-time parents on April 9 with the birth of a daughter, Java Kumala Holloway.

On April 3, I talked to Holloway by phone from the "Lost" location in Hawaii for a syndicated feature story to coincide with the show's 100th episode, airing on April 29 (click here for cast member Jorge Garcia's blog, which contains pictures of the celebratory cake, created by Charm City Cakes of Food Network's "Ace of Cakes").

As it turned out, the conversation took place only days before the blessed event, and luckily I had time to ask Holloway how he felt about being a dad.

Holloway said, "Well, I'm about to find out. We're getting close. It's beyond moving. I can't even describe it to you. I listen to country music and drive my car, and it makes me all teary. I'm like, 'God, I've got to listen to reggae or something, so I'll be happy.'

"It's powerful. Those emotions come up around a child. It's been a lot of fun. It's just been amazing. It's been a really wonderful experience so far. Few more weeks" -- little did he know it would be a few more days -- "I'll be with my sunglasses on, trying to change diapers and avoid getting pooed on."

On this particular Friday, Holloway said that he had one more day of work, which meant that filming would be wrapped up before the birth.

"Yes, that timed out really nicely," he said, "for the wife, for me, because I really want to be there. I don't want to miss that, because it's quite an amazing experience."

Asked if he and his wife were fully equipped at home, Holloway said, "Of course. We're all cocked and ready. We're so ready, it's ridiculous. So far, so good. We're just waiting for the day. She is very ready, and she's been great."

Some of Holloway's fellow cast members are parents, and as to whether they've been giving him advice, he said, "Oh, gosh, whether you seek it or not, you get it. I have heard every story there is from men, women -- oh my goodness -- read all the books and all that.

"Now I'm ready to just do it, and I think that's natural. It's the beauty of nature -- you get that nine months to actually wrap your psyche and heart around what you're about to get into. You have to learn all these things, and then you just have to do it, go on instinct.

"But I'm looking forward to it."

I wondered aloud whether this new-daddy business might make Holloway all mellow.

"I might be," he said, "you never know. Good God knows I'm round at the moment. I'm definitely having a pregnancy with my wife. I'm like, 'Shirt off, I don't think so. No, no, we'll do that next year.' Right now, I'm being a soft Daddy-O."

Speaking of shirts coming off, although Holloway said he was glad that his big TV success came a little later Josh3 in life, there are advantages to youth when the script calls for several shirtless scenes, as Holloway had in this year's season premiere.

"Staying in shape would be a lot easier," he said on that subject. "Not so fun for me, because I'm like 38, 39 -- that would have been better at 25. But, you know, you do what you gotta, and it keeps you in shape, whether you like it or not.

"So it's like, 'All right, I'll do it,' then I made the phone calls, 'Please, guys, don't do that to me anymore.' They broke the back of it this season, and I was like, 'Ya'll, I can't.'"

As for the tan, though, Holloway reveals that was the easy part.

"That's au naturel," he said. "I can get pretty dark. If I have to do a scene of that nature, I just go fishing, hang out on the boat all day. Four or five hours in the sun, you change four or five shades darker. I just did that, and I'm glad I did."

Josh Holloway is vader

Lost heartthrob Josh Holloway and wife Yessica welcomed a daughter on April 9 in Oahu, PEOPLE has exclusively confirmed. They named their baby girl Java Kumala Holloway.

"Dad and Mom are absolutely thrilled," a source close to the actor, 39, tells PEOPLE. "Everyone's happy and healthy." This is the first child for the couple, who have been married since 2004.

Holloway's Lost costar Daniel Dae Kim knew the actor would enjoy fatherhood. "He'll be an incredible dad," Kim told PEOPLE in February. "When you talk to him about his baby, his face completely lights up."

Josh Holloway over bier

Talking to the Others

Whether he’s playing the role of a brash badass for the fellas or a Southerner with a heart of gold for the ladies, when it comes to fan favorites of ABC’s hit show “Lost,” Sawyer is at the top of the list. With Season Five underway and only two seasons left before the show’s final curtain call, actor Josh Holloway is staying busy and living the high life in the country’s most exotic state: Hawaii. DRAFT caught up with him between takes to learn more about his first beer, living on an island and what exactly is in those Dharma beer cans.

Do you remember your first beer? And do you still pop one open every once in awhile and reminisce?
I do, it was a Miller High Life. It’s the Champagne of Beers. And yes, I still drink it sometimes.

Since moving out to Hawaii, are there any local beers you’re now a fan of?
Well, Dharma beer isn’t all that bad.

What types of beer are your favorites, and what brands can you always count on?
My favorites are pale ales and plain ol’ American beer, because that’s what I grew up drinking. I can always count on Bass, Miller, and Budweiser products.

Any lesser-known beers or microbrews you're a fan of?
I like Fat Tire amber ale and Full Sail.

You’ve been able to travel abroad and help promote the show in other countries. In your travels, were there any beers overseas that you’ve enjoyed but are hard to find in the States?
I’m sure there are, but I can’t remember their names. I must have liked them a little too much.

Bottle or a pint glass?
I like drinking pale ales in a pint glass, but the rest I like drinking out of bottles.

When Sawyer finally gets off the island, what drink will be his first?
A cold draft on tap. Any cold draft on tap.

What can the fans of Sawyer expect for him during Season Five?
Not a lot of beer drinking! There’s a lot of stuff heating up and happening, so viewers can expect a lot of action this next season.

Do you enjoy living on an island?
I love living in Hawaii.

Once the show wraps in 2010, do you think it will be hard for you to move back to Los Angeles?
Moving back to Los Angeles will of course be a transition, but I don’t mind transitions. I like change.

Of course, you had to see this one coming: If you were stranded on a desert island and could have a crate of beer with you, what beer would you choose?
That’s easy: a crate of Bass.

And finally, let us in on a little island secret: What’s really in the Dharma beer cans?
Wouldn’t you like to know?

Josh Holloway wilt van z'n haar af

Josh Holloway
wants 'Lost' to end so he can shave his head.

The long-haired actor - who plays Sawyer in the US TV drama - can't wait for the long-running show to finish because he is desperate to have a mohawk hairstyle.

He said in an interview with Loaded magazine: "Oh my God! I'm looking forward to knowing what the f**k is going on, first of all. I still have no clue what the story is and where we'll end up.

"I may shave my head into a fine mohawk, like a tall one, because one of our camera operators had a beautiful mohawk for the first two years. I've always wanted one."

The 39-year-old hunk - who is expecting his first child with wife Yessica Kumala this summer - recently revealed he attracts a lot of attention from drunk mature ladies when he goes out.

He said: "It's more by older American women. They scream, 'Oh my God!' Then they grab and shake me. They've usually been drinking too many mai tais!"

Josh Holloway is het kwijt

Josh Holloway has admitted that he is looking forward to the end of Lost because he has no idea what is going on in the show.

The actor, who plays Sawyer in the ongoing series, told Loaded that he has only correctly predicted one part of the ever-changing plot.

Holloway said: "Oh my God! I'm looking forward to knowing what the f**k is going on, first of all.

"The only thing I ever got right was the island moving, which was pretty good. But that's it. I don't know what the story is or where we will end up."

Josh Holloway look-a-like?

Dit online artikel gaat over een man die vindt dat ie sprekend op Josh Holloway lijkt.
Area man incorrectly compares self to Josh Holloway

DAYTON, Ohio – From ruggedly handsome looks to exemplary thespian ability, area carpenter Mike Kirkbride has repeatedly and incorrectly likened himself to every aspect of television star Josh Holloway, according to friends, family and coworkers of the 33-year-old father of two.

Outside of coincidentally sporting scruffily-kept dark whiskers, every person close to Kirkbride has repeatedly told him that he has little in common with the television star. Despite negative feedback, Kirkbride insists he shares a facial structure and body type with Holloway and that many strangers approach him thinking the Dayton man to be Holloway.

“Man, people stop me all the time on the street, and they’re like, ‘Are you that guy from Lost?’” said Kirkbride, whose friends and family were unable to recall such an incident. “I tell them I’m not him, but then I usually say some Sawyer line, you know, just to make their day.”

Kirkbride has also compared his self-acclaimed dramatic deftness to that of Holloway’s, often nearly replicating lines from Holloway’s Lost character, Sawyer.

“It seems like ever since he started watching that show (Lost), he sarcastically calls everyone ‘Jack’ when he gets upset with them,” said Fred Lohman, owner of Lohman Construction, who employs Kirkbride as a general carpenter. “I watched the show once to see what he was talking about but I never saw the character that looked like him. I guess he wasn’t in that episode.”

Since viewing the first season of Lost in 2004, Kirkbride has tried to replicate as many attributes as possible of the show’s Sawyer character, most notably attempting to assign disparaging nicknames to people he interacts with on a daily basis. From referring to a new drywall contractor as “Newby McDrywall” to identifying a long-employed bricklayer as “ancient bricklayer,” Kirkbride has missed entirely the more-clever and often pop culture-referencing nicknames dished out by Holloway’s character.

“I think when he tries to call somebody a nickname like Sawyer does, he thinks it’s funnier than it is,” said fellow Lohman employee Sam Reed of Kirkbride’s portrayal of a Sawyer-like voice, which unintentionally comes across as a solid impersonation of a Texas cattle rancher. “I told Mike, ‘Look, why don’t you just shave? You’re beard doesn’t really look like [Holloway’s],’ and he just unbuttoned the top four buttons of his shirt and stormed off.”

At home, Kirkbride never misses an episode of Lost, and his wife regularly joins him. However, she has begun to grow tired of her husband’s nonstop insistence of his similarity to Sawyer.

“I like watching Lost with him, but afterwards he seems to call me ‘Kate’ a lot,” said Jill Kirkbride, Mike Kirkbride’s wife of seven years. “At first I laughed, but that was five years ago.”

Kirkbride’s remaining close friends also routinely have pointed out the many differences between Kirkbride and actor Josh Holloway, who is the subject thousands of fan-created websites dedicated to discussing his favorable appearance and ability as an actor. Kirkbride, meanwhile, is the subject of his own blog, “Sawyer look-a-like dude”, which he updates regularly with mostly fictitious stories of his interactions with fans and crudely Photoshop-edited images meant to portray him appearing in various locations with Josh Holloway.

Still, Kirkbride is not deaf to the criticisms, often trying to find similar clothing to that which Sawyer wears or showing his 68-year-old barber a picture of Holloway in order to replicate the actor’s hairstyle. Perhaps also due to unfavorable feedback regarding his attempted likening to Holloway, last fall Kirkbride, seemingly in an effort to replicate a famous feat of Holloway’s Lost character, tried to embark on a polar bear hunting trip until he found out the species was endangered and illegal to kill.

Josh Holloway in een nieuwe reclame campagne

Josh Holloway gaat opnieuw aan een campagne beginnen voor Davidoff Cool Water.
Lost actor Josh Holloway will star in a new advertising campaign for Davidoff Cool Water

Beauty supplier Coty Prestige has announced it has extended its endorsement agreement with Lost actor Josh Holloway, who will star in a new advertising campaign for the Davidoff Cool Water men’s fragrance. Holloway has been the face of the scent since February 2007 and the new campaign will run worldwide from this summer.

Coty Prestige senior vice-president international European marketing licences Françoise Mariez said: “Josh Holloway is the Cool Water Man. He is full of power, sensuality and a fresh, cool attitude. The strength of the character he plays in Lost, Sawyer, was for us very close to the values that we wanted to express in this fragrance and especially in the New Cool Water Man.”

Over Stay Cool van Josh Holloway

The Tribeca Film Festival has been in the news lately for significant personnel changes, but what about the movies? This year's edition gets underway on April 22, and Cinematical has received a list of the first 38 of the 86 feature films that will be screened. A few titles that jumped out at me:

The Eclipse. The great Ciaran Hinds stars in an "atmospheric drama about a widower who sees and hears strange things in his house." Hinds was fairly magnificent in the TV series Rome and stood out in Steven Spielberg's Munich. Add to that Iben Hjejle and Aidan Quinn as writers the widower encounters at a literary festival, and this is a drama that I want to see.

The Fish Child. Lucia Puenzo made the well-regarded XXY and now comes a "a passionate love story in the arms of a pulsating thriller." I love the idea that for her sophomore feature, the director has made what is evidently a very different type of movie than her quieter debut drama.

Stay Cool. The Polish Brothers (Northfork) return with a "charming comedy" about a high school reunion of sorts, with Winona Ryder and Hilary Duff. Manure was sharply criticized at Sundance just a couple of months ago; could Stay Cool possibly be any good? Winona Ryder doesn't get seen enough, and Hilary Duff has made interesting choices, so this could be surprisingly good -- or another train wreck.
